Watching time-lapse videos are often mesmerizing as you watch something come to life before your very eyes. In the same way, it’s always fun to watch those, with whom you have a relationship, grow with the years. One such client is Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg, VA, with whom Anderson & Associates has had a long-standing relationship for over 25 years.
The nonprofit community of Warm Hearth Village was founded in 1974 by Wybe and Marietje Kroontje (Wee-ba and Mar-ee-cha Croon-cha), Dutch immigrants. They were dissatisfied with the “typical” nursing homes of the day and decided they could improve upon them. They began making plans for a senior living community like no other. They envisioned a village alive with the beauty of nature, and committed to protecting the natural beauty of our environment.
Over time, they enlisted the help of A&A for civil engineering and site planning, and today the non-profit can celebrate the achievement that their vision is alive and well, offering a full continuum of care. A&A has helped produce site plans for Hawthorn Ridge, Woodside Terrace/Holly Hill Place, Kroontje Health Care Center, and most recently, Woods Edge. Site services have included grading, parking, gravity sanitary sewer, water service stormwater management, roadway, erosion and sediment control, traffic analysis, and construction inspection services.
Warm Hearth’s most recent expansion is WoodsEdge. WoodsEdge has been carefully planned. An extensive system of walking trails and untouched woodland make the most of the 220-acre campus. The rolling, wooded terrain echoes the natural beauty of the entire region, and the 60 homes that make up WoodsEdge are nestled amid beautifully landscaped, sidewalk-lined streets surrounded by abundant natural spaces. A&A has enjoyed watching this community grow, and offer a wonderful living community to the seniors of this area.
