WebGIS.net
Site Launched: August 2000
URL: http://www.webgis.net
WebGIS.net was developed as a showcase for Anderson & Associates' growing line of GIS services. Originally a sub-section of the Anderson & Associates Website (http://www.andassoc.com), WebGIS.net was redesigned by the Creative Services team in the summer of 2000. The site's redesign was a massive undertaking. Creative Services developed a unique graphic design for the site, making WebGIS.net a separate entity for the first time in its history. The front page of WebGIS.net features a "click-through" presentation. These presentations, periodically updated, spotlight interesting news in the world of GIS and digital mapping. Once a graphic design and page layout had been implemented, Creative Services collaborated with the GIS team to compile the site's content.
In addition to a glossary of GIS terms, a comprehensive list of GIS resources, and information about Anderson & Associates' GIS services, WebGIS.net features several innovative interactive applications. Creative Services' programmers developed a GIS Cost Estimator and a
Cost Comparison tool, using HTML and ASP (respectively). These tools enable potential clients to educate themselves about GIS development and to help plan their own GIS projects ... for free. The site also features downloadable Sample Contracts and RFPs, giving clients access to A&A's GIS services with the click of a mouse.
Most importantly, WebGIS.net is a jumping point from which visitors to the site can access all of the geographic information systems developed by Anderson & Associates. As of September 2001, Anderson & Associates' list of "Active GIS Sites" included twenty-two geographic information systems. These web-based GIS sites provide mapping information for municipalities, real estate agencies, and businesses.
Creative Services continues to develop WebGIS.net. Programmers are currently developing interactive applications that demonstrate the capabilities of WebGIS.net on wireless hand-held devices. Additionally, the downloadable contracts and RFPs will soon be replaced by web-based forms that will enable potential clients to fill out these documents and submit them to Anderson & Associates online.
