Making History in Arlington
by Valerie Beelman

The old Arlington, Virginia post office site is currently undergoing a radical transformation into a mixed-use development to be known as The Phoenix at Clarendon Metro Condominiums. Within the next two years, the site will be home to a new four-story post office, a ten-story condominium complex, and a four-story below ground parking garage.

Anderson & Associates is working for Turner Construction on this project and has already completed staking for the garage and building locations. Additionally, A&A was asked to monitor buildings that adjoin the work site as the four-story garage was excavated. Survey Manager Neil Martin says, "We monitored these buildings for four to six months, to check for moving or shifting."

Additionally, A&A was asked to complete a survey of utilities, set the property corners for each structure, and will be required to survey the final building corners, location, and building height.

The project is currently nine months underway with an estimated one and a half to two years remaining. Crews recently completed excavation for the below ground garage and securing walls and continue to work on the construction of the garage structure.

The A&A team is coordinating efforts between offices and working closely with Turner Construction. Neil is managing this project and working closely with Justin Lewis, responsible for all drafting and computations for stake outs, in Blacksburg. Party Chief Brian Garrett is managing field crews based out of our Fredericksburg, Virginia office.
