A Few Steps Ahead

by Courtney Bremner

Brandon MatusevichWhen Brandon Matusevich was placed in a drafting class in 9th grade by a guidance counselor, little did he know the number of doors it would open. Brandon, a 2005 graduate of Radford High School, is a drafter on a Land Development team in Anderson & Associates’ Blacksburg office. He took the position as a summer job one year ago and ended up continuing employment during his busy senior year.

Brandon, an avid sports fan, is getting ready to begin his freshman year at Virginia Tech. His goal is to finish his bachelor’s degree in engineering with a 4.0 and work full-time with Anderson & Associates after graduation. "I have an advantage over other engineering students, because of the experience and knowledge I have gained working here," Brandon says.

Anderson & Associates strives to find high school and college students who have long term potential with our firm. "We love working with Brandon because he has a positive attitude and is always eager to learn new things," says Mary Ann Bonadeo, Brandon’s project manager. "We look forward to offering him a full-time position in about four years." Having high schools with drafting classes and a major university in the area, there are many success stories of students working as high school students and working their way up the company ladder.

When Brandon isn’t working on getting a few steps ahead of his future fellow Hokies, he likes to play pool and video games with his friends. Brandon and his family also have season tickets to Virginia Tech football and basketball games. &
