Starting a Job, Staying with a Career

by Courtney Bremner

Amy and Rick FeathersWhen Amy Feathers graduated from Shenandoah University in December 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in business, she went out into the world in search of a "job". She came across a posting for an administrative assistant at Anderson & Associate’s Middletown Regional office and applied. She took the job for the benefits and pay check, completely unaware of the possibilities she would stumble across.

Since joining A&A, Amy has become an integral part of the Middletown office and its success. She has been promoted to office manager and enjoys the variety in her job. In any given day, Amy works on administrative duties, human resources, accounting, and marketing. From time to time, Amy helps her team and works with AutoCAD. She said "I am extremely proud of and enjoy the relationships I have built with clients. I am on a first name basis with many of them and that makes me feel like I am making a positive impact and contribution".

Amy hopes to further her impact and contributions by continuing her education. She is interested in pursuing an MBA and also taking some entry level engineering and/or surveying courses. She believes that such classes will help her better understand the work being done and may provide her with the skills to help out more around the office.

When Amy isn’t at work pursuing her goals and watching over the office, she and her husband, Rick, are building their first home in Frederick County, VA. She is active in her church and enjoys exercising at the gym. "I have to uphold my position as the office ‘bouncer’", she said smiling. &

Grab the Steering

ESOP Owner's Orientation MaterialsEarly on March 30, many of Anderson & Associates’ Blacksburg employees gathered in our large conference room and were greeted by balloons, a gleaming stack of papers awaiting multiple signatures, and sparkling apple cider. Branch employees joined in over the phone, and together the employee-owners of Anderson & Associates witnessed the signing of the legal documents that transferred ownership of Ken Anderson’s A&A stock to the ESOP Trust. It was an atmosphere of celebration and a milestone in the history of A&A.

In the weeks that followed, employee-owners celebrated with an Owner’s Orientation at each regional office. Every employee was supplied with an Owner’s Manual, a visual and creative depiction of what it means to be an employee owner. The manuals outlined the steps of this transaction and included a road map to represent our organizational chart and future leaders of the company.

Ken Anderson will maintain an active role in the management of A&A as the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Directors. Chip Worley is assuming the role of A&A’s president. This has been an exciting time for our employees, as we look back at the history of A&A and eagerly look forward to our future. &
