Call Center Slated for Quick Completion
by Valerie Harper

Anderson & Associates Greensboro Branch Manager and Project Manager Jim Billups knew that the development andDesign began on the Citicard Call Center in March and the building is sceduled to be fully operational by October construction of an 180,000 square foot building in McLeansville, NC would present many unique challenges. The building, being developed by Koll Development Company, will be used as a new call center for Citi Card and bring roughly 1,100 new jobs to the area. The project timeline, site-specific design began in March and the project is scheduled to be completed in October, has been the largest challenge for Clayco Construction Company, the project General Contractor, Koll, and A&A.

Coordinating rapid design, permitting, and construction expedition on this scale took resolve and persistence. To expedite the construction process, the contractor used tilt-up walls on the three-story structure. A&A coordinated with local government agencies for permitting activities associated with the project, and government agencies have expedited review processes.

A&A provided the design for off-site services, ranging from widening interstate frontage to new sidewalks, and utilized several of the Greensboro engineering staff, creating a full-time project effort for Greensboro Project Engineer Scarlett Kitts. Under A&A Vice President of Surveying Tim Ingold, A&A has provided topographic surveying, on and off-site construction staking services, and subdivision and easement plats. The Greensboro surveying team was lead by Bill Ciccolella because of his ability to make decisions quickly and decisively in the field.

Regardless of the effort necessary to successfully complete this project, the entire Greensboro staff is pleased to see a project that will bring jobs to this area east of Greensboro with the possibility for future expansion. &

Racing Past Ordinary

Not many people would describe their work as therapeutic. However, Matt Forbes, a GIS Technician based out of Anderson & Associates’ Greensboro office, doesn’t have the typical work situation and used that very term to describe his workdays. Matt works from his home in Richmond, VA on the average day and stays connected to A&A electronically. When describing a normal workday he said, "I get up, brew some coffee, put some music on and start digitizing away. It’s actually somewhat therapeutic!" Matt appreciates that A&A is flexible and enjoys that the company is innovative with its use of technology and treatment of employees.

Matt and his cycling club organize the Bryan Park Race seriesFor nearly two years, Matt worked onsite at the Virginia Department of Transportation developing an Agricultural and Forestal statewide data layer. More recently, Matt has been working on parcel data for Franklin County.

Matt is also an accomplished cyclist. His love for the sport began in 1995 after a cross-country bike trip with friends. Matt won the Virginia State Road Race in 2003 and a month later won the District 20 (Washington DC, Maryland, Delaware, and Northern Virginia) Road Race Championship. Matt also participates in events with the local cycling community by organizing training rides, helping new riders, and recruiting sponsorships. Matt enjoys cycling because almost anyone of any age can participate and said, "I love the tradition of it, the community and camaraderie; cycling is very much a team sport."

In the future, Matt hopes to continue developing his GIS skills and to have a farm in the country with his girlfriend, Shauna. &
