| A&A Simplifies Construction Bid Process by Nancy Elfino
Through the Bid Center, A&A offers sample RFPs and contracts to assist clients in planning and budgeting their projects. The site also offers a place for contractors to view Projects Out for Bid and Project Construction Updates, and provides estimated cost and cost comparison calculators. Technology allows plans, specs, and addenda to be viewed and plotted by all bidders in a short amount of time. Most forms are available in a [.doc] format for a Word document, or a [.pdf] format for a printable Adobe Acrobat document. Updated project information like addenda, plan holders lists, as-read bid results, and complete bid tabulation is posted promptly, allowing contractors to access the most current information. The website reduces reimbursable costs for clients, enabling each project to be less costly and more efficient. The method of collecting, processing, and returning deposit checks for documents is eliminated. Documents can be sent to and from clients and contractors in a seamless manner, reducing traditional document reproduction. The site is free for all bidders. There is no cost for registering, downloading, viewing, or plotting. Anyone with a computer and Internet access can easily use the Bid Center. Morgan Swings Up Success Lance Morgan didnt grow up with dreams of being an engineer. It wasnt
until he attended Bluefield State that
Lances professors coaxed him into civil engineering. Lucky for Anderson & Associates, those professors knew
talent when they saw it!
Lance is a Project Manager with A&As Blacksburg office, and has worked with the firm for three years. He specializes in water and wastewater projects. Lance also has worked on surveying and inspections for waterline and land development projects, and has experience with funding applications. He worked extensively on the Allison Gap Sewer Project and the Bastian Wastewater Project, and is currently working with the Town of Bluefield on upgrades to the Towns water system. Lance receives great satisfaction from his work. "The work that I do improves the
quality of life for people," he explains. "There are people in Virginia who
still dont have what most of us take for granted, like reliable water. It is my
teams job to help provide clean drinking water for those people." In order to stay on top of the latest industry trends, Lance is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the West Virginia Society of Professional Engineers, the Virginia Rural Water Association, and the West Virginia Rural Water Association. Lances passion for his career is evident in his work ethic and his commute. Lance travels 85 miles from Beckley, W.V. to Blacksburg, Va., to work at A&A. However, he values the environment the firm offers. "A&A provides flexibility, and a team environment that fosters professional growth and personal friendships," Lance says. When Lance isnt busy working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Leigh Ann, and their 11-month-old son, Ethan. And when hes not at work or home, the golf course is always a possibility. Lance plays golf about three times a week; and his seven handicap is evidence of his dedication to the sport!
