A&A Offers Services through
VA DIT

Anderson & Associates now offers Information Technology and GIS services through the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Information Technology (DIT) Staff Augmentation Contract. Through the contract, A&A provides IT staffing services based on pre-quoted rates. As a result, state agencies and local governments can benefit from A&A’s IT and GIS services without having to go through the time-intensive procurement process.

A&A offers a variety of IT and GIS services through the DIT contract. The contract's purpose is to offer flexible ways for the Commonwealth and its subdivisions to contract with approved vendors for a variety of IT and GIS services using pre-determined hourly on-site and off-site pricing. The services are contracted on an as-needed basis.

"Because the DIT Staff Augmentation Contract satisfies procurement requirements, it will be easier for us to be responsive to the needs for periodic or on-call IT and GIS services for state agencies and local governments," explained Dan Brabrand, A&A Project Manager. "Clients can simply call us with their needs and we will take care of the rest."

A&A has IT and GIS project teams located throughout Virginia, putting the firm in a position to respond quickly and efficiently to any assignment. A&A also has close working relationships with hardware and software vendors such as Microsoft Corporation, Cisco Systems, and ESRI.

Shane Parson:
Rooted in Blacksburg

When Dr. Shane Parson, P.E., relocated to Montgomery County, Va. a year ago, he felt like he was moving "back home." Shane, a project manager with Anderson & Associates, graduated from Blacksburg High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from Virginia Tech.

Shane, Rachel, and Jesse frequently travel to research their ever-growing family tree. After graduating from Virginia Tech, Shane was honored with a Fellowship at Penn State, where he earned both a master’s degree and a doctorate in Agricultural and Biological Engineering. Shane’s extensive research and design experience landed him a job with Dewberry and Davis in Fairfax, Va., where he worked for two years before returning "home" with his wife, Rachel, and newborn baby, Jesse.

Now Shane is surrounded by family…in more ways than one. Both Shane’s and Rachel’s families reside in Montgomery County, so there is never a shortage of family gatherings. But through his passion for genealogy, Shane has traced over 4,400 relatives, with one branch going back 25 generations to the Norman Invasion of England in 1066.

Shane spends approximately 20 hours each month on genealogy research. And on free weekends, he and his family travel to collect family stories and photos to add to their family tree.

"During a family reunion one year, I really caught the genealogy bug," explained Shane. "I have always enjoyed research, and now I am using those skills for my family history."

But Shane’s research doesn’t stop with genealogy; he uses his skills to benefit clients at A&A. "Because of my research experience, I have the ability to develop creative solutions to meet the unique needs of our clients," he said.

Shane specializes in hydrology and hydraulics with a focus on applied GIS. He has worked extensively with storm-water management, flood mitigation, and water quality modeling, and is currently combining his skill sets for stormwater and flood planning projects in Bluefield, Va.

When Shane isn’t busy preventing floods or tracing ancestors, he can be found at Christiansburg Wesleyan Church, where he serves as a song leader, Sunday School teacher, and president of the men’s ministry group.

Shane can be reached at 800-763-5596 or parson@andassoc.com. &
