Tim Stowe Presents Senator Warner with TEA-21 Success Stories

The Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21) was a milestone for US infrastructure, authorizing $218 billion for our nation’s highways, bridges, and transit systems.Tim Stowe presents Senator John Warner with a copy of TEA-21 Success StoriesPassed by Congress in 1998, this program has funded and impacted transportation projects across the country.

Much of the credit for the success of this bill goes to Virginia Senior Senator John Warner, who took an early interest and played an important role in the development of the TEA-21 legislation. On Wednesday, August 29th in Blacksburg, Va., Tim Stowe, A&A Vice President of Transportation, Planning & Surveying, presented Senator Warner with a copy of TEA-21 Success Stories , highlighting more than 30 projects in 21 states that were made possible because of Senator Warner’s leadership and involvement in TEA-21.

Tim, as Chairman of the American Consulting Engineers Council Transportation Committee, began cultivating the legislation to reauthorize the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act more than five years ago. For two years, he worked with Senator Warner and testified in Congress on four occasions in support of the new legislation. Prior to the end of his term as Chairman, Tim authored the TEA-21 Success Stories document to "illustrate the immediate and far-reaching benefits of improved transportation infrastructure, and the positive impact it has on the well-being of this great nation." Warner, who was honored and pleasantly surprised, acknowledged that this two-year effort was predicated on a simple principal: "return the tax-payers’ money to them and let them spend it."

A&A's Unique Work Environment Cited in New Book

Throughout October, Anderson and Associates celebrates Employee Stock Ownership (ESOP) Month, and the firm’s unique workplace environment and open management style. In fact, A&A’s "open book" success was noted by Cynthia Froggatt in her recently published book entitled Work Naked, published by Jossey-Bass.

Work Naked examines eight principles for virtual workplace performance. A&A’s open financial statements are cited in the book’s chapter focusing on company dialogue – specifically, determining who should get what information in a company.

In an interview with Ken Anderson, president of A&A, the author cites A&A’s ESOP plan and open financial summaries, including the posting of all employees’ hourly rates on the company’s intranet site. Ken explains the company’s mindset in the book with a quote: "In places where employees don’t know all, the few people who have the information have too much power." The author notes that through an open policy, A&A employees "think like owners and ask smart questions about why money is being spent on certain activities."

Work Naked is available at area bookstores or online at www.josseybass.com. For more information about A&A’s innovative and unique company environment, contact Ken Anderson at 540-552-5592 or by email at anderson@andassoc.com. &
