Montvale Construction:
Going the Extra Mile

Wayne Connor started his Montvale Construction Company in Bedford
County, Virginia, building spec homes in his spare time after his main job as a
superintendent for New River Electrical Corporation. "Free time," Connor says,
"I didn’t have any."
Over 23 years, he
gained valuable construction experience supervising projects such as American Electric
Power’s only 765KV gas-insulated substation and the world’s largest condenser
— it weighed more than 500 tons. In 1989, he went full-time with his general
contracting business. "It was all good experience," he says.
