Tommy DiGiulian has been with the firm since 1987. DiGiulian has moved swiftly up the ladder, beginning as a part time Drafter attending Virginia Tech, to now a Blacksburg-based project manager. "I think our team's biggest asset is the diverse backgrounds and experience of the team members," says DiGiulian.

The DiGiulian project team is a young, ambitious group which sports a variety of talents and specialties. Steve Bissinger and Don Crisp have both excelled, first as inspectors and currently as project engineers. Crisp, a Bluefield State College graduate and Bissinger, a wholehearted Hokie, both agree that the force behind their group is a love of their work and a dedication to do their best.

The newest members of the DiGiulian group are Design Technician Lisa VanLandingham, Inspector/Design Technician Todd Carroll, and Drafter Blake Hendricks. VanLandingham ventured indoors this summer after being promoted from Surveyor to Design Technician. There were adjustments to be made, but her capabilities were quickly recognized.

Hendricks is an aspiring engineer who is keeping an eye on his future. The recent high school graduate came to A&A as a full-time drafter. "I wanted to take a break from school and get a taste of the real world," said Blake. His plans for the Fall of '96 include enrolling in Texas Tech.

This past year, the DiGiulian team has been working on a number of utility projects for Wythe County, Virginia, including the Fort Chiswell/Max Meadows sewer project; the largest utility project that A&A has been awarded to date.

Helping Our Youth

A&A Drafting Technician Celeste Woodard and Network Technician Sean Neff volunteered as presenters for Career Fair '95

Employees of A&A's Blacksburg branch have been regularly participating in an event, that this year served 1023 freshman high school students.

The '95 annual Career Fair served students in three county/city school systems and one private school. Four area chambers of commerce sponsored the program, and 76 business representatives presented in 41 career areas.

During each session, the presenters discuss the responsibilities of their job as well as the educational requirements of the profession.
Students must attend a session on interviewing/job skills.

A&A Marketing Manager Karin Clark, has been involved in the organization of the Career Fair for five years. "This event helps the students make the connection between school and work. The fair gets them thinking that life beyond high school is a soon-to-be reality. It encourages kids to take control of the choices they make in courses and attendance habits," says Clark. Clark hopes that the event will serve the entire New River Valley region next year.

"I was encouraged this year by the response of the students attending the Career Fair. They were the most inquisitive and interactive of all of the groups that I have spoken to so far." ~John Christman, A&A Survey Manager

"I think there's a lot of value in thinking about your career early. The Career Fair helped me realize, at that age you still have a lot to learn about careers and skills needed on a job." ~Sean Neff, A&A Network Technician

"The Career Fair gave some students their first taste of the working world and perhaps what it takes to get to the level of some of the presenters." ~Celeste Woodard, A&A Drafting Technician
